The Dental Oral Care Project is a tax-exempt 501(3)(c) non-profit organization. We exist because dental disease is a preventable illness yet remains the leading cause of childhood illness. By the age of 17, 80% of people have had a cavity. Many children suffer from severe, life threatening tooth decay. Sadly, it is largely preventable. We strongly believe that with a tough-love approach to education, we will make an impact. Fresh perspective on disease causing behaviors that will have the ability to communicate with the public in a call to action way. To advocate for total healthcare education, because quite frankly it all starts with the primary care provider.
Our goal is to provide education to the public, provide Continuing Education (CE) to the healthcare provider and bring awareness that dental disease is PREVENTABLE.
Mission Statement:
To inspire the world to live a dental disease-free life through education, awareness, and advocacy starting at birth.
Our Beginning
The Dental Oral Care Project (The DOC Project) was founded by Lynda Sherman, a Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) and an Expanded Functions Dental Auxiliary (EFDA) in Ohio. She has been working clinically in the dental field since 1992. After working in pediatrics, Lynda was shocked to see how prevalent tooth decay still is knowing it is a preventable disease. The resources are there, but the situation was getting out of control. Knowing there needed to be a call to action, she established this non-profit organization in 2020. She wanted to put a stop to the leading cause of childhood illness. The Doc Project was established to bring awareness that we can all live a dental disease free life.
